Gems of Hope
Gems of Hope is most known for the “gifts of hope” program.
Volunteers handcraft over 750 cards every month along with beaded earrings and
bookmarks for cancer patients as they receive chemo. Cards are created at Gem
hosted workshops consisting of both cancer patients and members of the
community. The “What About Us?” kids camp is designed to teach coping skills
when dealing with a cancer diagnosis in their family, while the Gifts of
Education program offers high school seniors the chance at scholarship opportunities. Pages for Hope provides local school
libraries with cancer related resources within the district. Additionally Gems
created a web portal for teens called cancerreallysucks.org.
